Aneropharma Science, Inc. is a privately held drug discovery company based in Tokyo, Japan. The firm is developing a tumor selective therapeutic agent based on its proprietary technology which involves non-pathogenic and anaerobic bacteria. The bacteria are engineered to produce certain enzymes that transform pro-drugs into cyto-toxic agents selectively at tumor tissues. Because of the anaerobic nature of those bacteria, they tend to localize at the anaerobic environment of tumor tissues. The cyto-toxic agents eventually produced at the tumor tissues are expected to kill those surrounding tumor cells.
